What we’re reading…06/19/15
Each Friday, we post “What we’re reading.” Essentially, it is a list of posts that we wish we had written or we feel add to the overall conversation about Tulsa, Life, and Faith. If you have an article that you want us to consider, email our lead contributor, Aaron Tiger (aarontiger@fumctulsa.org).
Tulsa
New Entrepreneurial Hub – 36° North is going to be a great addition to our downtown community. Read more about what this “Entrepreneurial Hub” is all about.
The Coolest Urban Spaces in America – “Located in the heart of Tulsa’s Brady Arts District, Guthrie Green went from an industrial patch of blah to an urban garden and performance space with a stage, pavilion, tree-lined paths, artsy structures for shade, water features and a large lawn.”
Best Swimming Holes – Looking for some water activities to do? Check out Our Top 5 Splash Pads, but also check out this article with some great swimming holes from This Land Press.
Life
How to Create an Energy Management List – We love the idea of doing what you are best at when you are at your best. Check out this great blog about how to do that.
The Apps Can Finally Save You Money – We’re big fans of Mint, and we’re curious to try these other apps as well. Technology can save you money, not just cost you money.
Faith
Like many of you, we are broken and sick about the murdering of 9 African-American women and men following a Bible Study in Charleston, South Carolina. We hope that you are praying for the families of the victims, but we also hope that you are praying and active in healing racial relations in our community. We have a sordid history in Tulsa, read more in our article on the Tulsa Race Riots, and because of the recent events and statistical facts if we follow God’s commands to love our neighbors, then we must pray, and we must do better. If you are looking for a place to start, check out the John Hope Franklin Center for Reconciliation.
Remembering the Charleston Church Shooting Victims – These are not just nine people, but nine people with stories. Read them here.
Hospitality Can Be Dangerous and Even Deadly – Jesus had his last supper with his betrayer. These victims had their last hour with their murderer.
